I finally saw the Barbie movie!

A couple days ago (July 28), I saw the Barbie movie. Here are my favorite moments, both in the film and in real life.

  • I've been waiting for this movie for years. The movie's been in development since 2009.
  • The movie visit is a birthday present for my aunt.
  • We got to sit in my local theater's large theater for the first time.
  • "Have you guys ever thought about dying" was the funniest line ever to me, even though I watched the trailers religiously.
  • Weird Barbie is probably my favorite character. I love the controversial Barbie references as well.
  • I like how the only things on the TV were horses and the Godfather.
  • "When I found out the patriarchy wasn't about horses, I lost interest anyway" is a banger of a line.
  • Told these people in pink they were a "Barbie family" and when I left I overheard "Bye Barbie" so I said it back. I love interacting with people.

Collective development

concepts

pre-planning

personality traits to carry over from oneself

  1. calm and friendly
  2. ambitious but fussy
  3. intelligent and patient
  4. cheerful but mysterious
  5. sleepy but clever

content genre

  • video essays about art, especially films and tv shows
  • videos about character and fashion design
  • videos about character and story writing
i could also do top 10 lists/tier lists, speedpaints, music theory, fundamentals, y2k throwbacks, etc. i want to have variety

audience

determining this is harder than i thought.

i think in terms of age i'm going to aim for mid-gen z and older, though my demographic for my real ghostbusters videos usually leaned to late-gen x and older millennials, since rgb aired in the late 80s for a tv-y7 audience. a third of my audience is 35-44, and only 15% is 18-24. it wasn't exclusively them, of course, but it is the biggest age demographic. my vtuber era will likely skew to a millennial and gen z audience, since i'm expanding my range.

my gender demographic is currently around 3/5 male and 2/5 female, but again, depending on how this will go, it could change to a different ratio.

my country demographic is mostly north america and the uk, as well as the philippines. the us in particular is 43% of my demographic, because, again it's a ghostbusters channel.

how much do you want to act? do you want to be completely yourself, play a character, or somewhat inbetween?

something inbetween. something that makes me feel fake but not too fake. the rest of the characters will probably just be characters.

  • for playing a character straight up (selected for 2, 3, 4, and 5), look into unique concepts and anime character tropes
  • for something inbetween (selected for 1), look into unique concepts and contrasting concepts
  • for being completely yourself (not selected), look into complementary concepts and contrasting concepts

formula

(trait) + profession/aesthetic + species

  • only add a trait if you're playing a character or adding a quirk to your persona
  • if your species is human, you can leave it out of the formula
  • you may change your final line if it doesn't gramatically make sense
examples: (nerdy) magical girl cactus, (energetic) cowboy rabbit, (seductive) marine biologist, hydrangea explorer peacock

lay your concepts out

using the formula above, lay out three to five concepts for your characters

  1. first character
    1. (elegant) flight attendant robot
  2. second character
    1. (ambitious) artist human/cyborg/robot
    2. wandering robot
  3. third character
    1. (intelligent) gyaru fairy
  4. fourth character
    1. idol desktop buddy
    2. astrologist
  5. fifth character
    1. (ethereal) sleeping beauty cuttlefish
    2. (ethereal) dimension goddess
all of them are ageless/vague ages that can be changed to anything, besides (ambitious) artist human/cyborg, who is 19-22, and (ethereal) dimension goddess, who is thousands of years old. the rest of the character concepts’ ages rely on their story

lay your top 3 concepts and list the pros and cons of each concept

1: (elegant) flight attendant robot

pros: shows efficiency, precision, organization, and elegance. robot jokes galore. lore is already laid out for her, which i think is quite immersive.
cons: breaks in immersion can be major. the lore i have for her is that she's a robot stranded on an alien planet whose only past was manufactured by a space travel company. i do not want people to be upset.

2: (ambitious) artist human/cyborg/robot

pros: i can be more of myself, especially since she doesn't have lore yet. she's more of a show don't tell character. i also have a design for her and i love it.
cons: the character herself has flaws that could be seen as annoying. particularly, she's bad at taking and giving critiques. her lack of lore is also a huge flaw.

wanderer robot

pros: i don't have to change the design i have for her as much. it also opens opportunities for lore.
cons: she could be a copy of the first character and might have to be merged with her.

3: (intelligent) gyaru fairy

pros: i can experiment with new appearances and outfits. she is also experienced enough to know what she's talking about.
cons: i don't have the ethos of anything of substance to back her character up. also when i think of her i think of shin sato and elle woods instead of myself.

4: idol desktop buddy

pros: my original concept for the character was desktop buddy. i can go for a y2k/frutiger aero look for this character, too!
cons: she's way more extroverted and mean than me so i don't think i can write properly for her long term.

4: astrologist

pros: connected to character 1's story.
cons: revolved around character 1's story. i could just make her nyx.

5: (ethereal) sleeping beauty cuttlefish

pros: strong concept. strong anime trope personality that i can easily fit in.
cons: easy hornybait. i feel like i need a certain energy that i currently lack to portray her correctly. also, i don't know if i can make her being a vtuber work.

5: (ethereal) dimension goddess

pros: her overpowered abilities make her easily fit in with other vtubers. her dimension theme fits the kangaroos wiki as well.
cons: i have less ideas for lore for her than the first concept. also she can just be francis, but i'm using francis in the bloody choice game.

WGA and SAG-AFTRA strike guidelines

Union members

I'm not the former so please research the actual rules for yourself.
  • Don't act or write for stuck companies.
  • Don't do acting or writing-adjacent work for struck companies.
  • Don't do promotions for struck companies or their works (interviews, film premieres, etc.
  • Especially if you are slated to appear in a struck company's film or panel, don't go to conventions or fan expos. That counts as a promotion.
  • Do not make sponsored promotions of struck works on social media, especially if you worked on it.
  • Non-paid work like fanwork, reviews, essays, etc. are acceptable. So is journalism.
  • Go in the streets and picket.

Aspiring union members

  • Don't audition for a struck company (AMPTP) during the strike, and again, don't do writing or acting and/or writing or acting-adjacent work for the companies. Also, don't make sponsored content for a struck company during the strike unless you're under a contract.

Consumers

  • This is NOT a consumer boycott. For tickets, merchandise, etc., you are free to pay for them during the strike. Do NOT change your spending habits on buying consumer products from a struck company. They are not necessary. In fact, see the movies!
  • Don't act or write for stuck companies.
  • Don't do acting or writing-adjacent work for struck companies.
  • Don't say that actors get enough money already. One of the two primary reasons for the strike is that writers and actors don't get enough money. The most prominent example is Kimiko Glenn's residuals on the show OITNB. It's not scabbing, it's just mean.
  • Remember who is striking and who isn't. If possible, find out when their contract gets renewed. UK actors cannot strike in solidarity as of now. Neither can animators, US, JP, KR, etc.
  • Don't cosplay for conventions as characters from a struck company's film.
  • You may attend conventions as long as you're not on behalf of or promoting a struck company or participating in any film company-related areas. AFAIK, Comic-Con and its owners are not legally owned by AMPTP.
  • You are allowed to picket if you're not in the union.
  • If you're not in the union, donate.
Also, I think I should strike. Not from being an attendant, but I feel like I should also strike from writing and acting from an AMPTP company. Well, actually, by the proxy of being American, I'm technically on strike because writing, acting, or promoting the companies during the strike is called scabbing and I won't be able to join those two unions!

Found a large ratio!

Don't ask why the first one was horizontal

It's a 0:8400 ratio!

If I had 10,000 dollars...

I would probably conduct a SynthV chorus where I made all the women sing whatever I want. And I would also buy music production material an...
