Ran Utatane

Ran

Introduction

Ran Utatane (歌手音 岬) is the second Cure of the Pretty Cure group Pretty Cure La La La! Her alter ego is Cure Caper and her theme color is purple.

Personality

Ran is the adopted daughter of Rin and Anna Utatane. She is a lively young lady who is always searching for new adventures. She spends a lot of time with her older sister Azuki and her colleagues. Ran is still on the lookout for new experiences, but her mind is an adventure in and of itself. Perhaps her strange behavior is a result of her new surroundings.

Ran used to be rivals with a girl named Youka in her first year. Ran was able to establish a relationship and be friends with Youka by the time they realized they had to save the planet.

As the series is based on music and flowers, she is represented by the guitar and the orchid.

Production

Ran was originally made in December 2015 as Miyuki, or Cure Harmony, along with Youka, whose name was Towa at the time. Her original name, Miyuki, was chosen specifically because Miyuki Hoshizora had the same name. It is possible that in Hoshizora's case, Miyuki means "happiness" (幸). I don't know what Ran originally looked like, I'll have to check my papers.

In October 2016, her name was changed to Ran Yamaguchi, meaning "mountain mouth orchid", and her Cure name changed to Cure Flute. The Cure was changed to Cure Caper in July 2019. Caper means "lively skip".

The change of Ran's surname from Yamaguchi to Utatane is recent. While not public yet, I have had this idea of changing her name since March 2021 or so. With this, she now shares her surname with Piko.

Trivia

  • Ran's full name means "music hand sound orchid".
  • Her rename could've been Ran Mitsurugi, but I found it too similar to Ran Mitake.
  • Ran could've been a white Cure, and bisexual.
  • Anna's maiden name is Yamaguchi, a reference to Ran's original surname.

Tsukiko Abe

The sixth-ever character bio. I don't plan to do these chronologically, I'm just about to move Tsukiko's old page to a new one.

Introduction

Tsukiko Abe (阿部 月子) is the lead Cure of the Pretty Cure group Pretty Cure La La La!. Her alter ego is Cure Harper and her theme color is pink.

Personality

Tsukiko is a gifted artist because she releases all her anxiety by playing her instruments. She is a talented harpist and painter, but despite this, it is common for her to doubt her abilities as an artist and as a Pretty Cure. However, she always tries to make something out of nothing, and when she makes mistakes, that just motivates her to keep trying. Besides playing the harp, she plays the lead guitar and main vocals for MELODY.

Tsukiko used to be rivals with a girl named Ran in her first year. The two had become friends by the time they realized they needed to save the world, and Tsukiko was able to make a name for herself by battling Princess Carnage.

As the series is based on music, her genre is classical music.

Connection to Kyokutopia

As a Pretty Cure, Tsukiko has an inherent connection to one of the princesses of Kyokutopia, who share the same name as them. Tsukiko Abe has Princess Tsukiko, the princess of the Ballet World. Like Tsukiko, she is graceful, elegant, and kind, and despite being a princess, never puts herself before others. Princess Tsukiko has the ability to sing to birds, which Tsukiko Abe learns she has as well.

Production

Tsukiko was originally made in December 2015 as Towa, or Cure Symphony, along with Ran, whose name was Miyuki at the time. Her original name was chosen specifically because Towa Akagi had the same name. Towa means "immortality" (トワ). I don't know what Youka originally looked like, but there is concept art out there, and it is stored away in a box.

In October 2016, her name was changed to Tsukiko Abe (阿部 月子), meaning "many peace, moon child", and her Cure name changed to Cure Harper (that just means harp player), a decision that has stuck for five years.

Circa 2021, while I was rebranding my Pretty Cure pages, I was considering renaming all four Cures to different names. Tsukiko would've gotten the only full name change, which was Youka Shirayuri (白百合 ようか), meaning "white lily, light flower". However, I was only able to change one Cure's name to their rebranded name before a rule was instated that you must ask an admin to move the page for you, because of vandals moving pages without the original editors' consent. I grew attached to the names of the Cures whose names I couldn't change and decided not to ask an admin to move the remaining pages. Thus, Youka has been renamed back to Tsukiko.

Trivia

  • Tsukiko's full name means "many peace, moon child".
  • Her rename could've been Kanon Shirayuri, but I found it too similar to Kanon Shibuya. The name "Kanon" was given instead to Kanon Otonashi.
  • Youka could've been a yellow Cure at one point.

As the series is based on emojis, she is represented by the thumbs up emoji.

I first submitted this with the same sentence as Kaede, but I changed that.

Introduction

Junko Mori (森 順子) is the fourth Cure of the Pretty Cure group Happy Happy Pretty Cure! Her alter ego is Cure Terra and her theme color is green.

Personality

Junko is a girl that loves photography and wolves and indulges herself in those interests. She doesn't like talking to people unless it involves those topics. Sometimes she likes to pretend that she is a wolf.

As the series is based on emojis, she is represented by the wolf emoji.

Production

Junko was originally made on July 3rd, 2015. Her original name was Nyuumuun Mangetsu, meaning "Full moon new moon". Nyuumuun was gairaigo for the new moon. Her Pretty Cure alter ego was Cure Bush and her theme color was pine green.

  • Junko's full name means "Obedient child of the forest". Ironic.
  • In the psuedo-remake "My Darling ♡ Pretty Cure", her name is Hirari Toriumi, which means "bird ocean butterfly".
  • Junko was named after Junko Enoshima, but they're nothing alike.

Kaede Ueda

I'm probably gonna make the other three Happy Happy girls' pages before anyone else, but after school because I need to do that.

Introduction

Kaede Ueda (上田 楓) is the third Cure of the Pretty Cure group Happy Happy Pretty Cure! Her alter ego is Cure Twirl and her theme color is yellow.

Personality

Kaede is the student council president of Setaka Girls' High School, and people fear her presence. But she has a pretty girly secret. She wants to be a ballerina, the best one there is. She wants to be a role model for young girls, and Pretty Cure was the only way she can express that.

As the series is based on emojis, she is represented by the heart emoji.

Production

Kaede was originally made on July 3rd, 2015. Her original name was Katsura Burashi, meaning "Brush wig". Yes, I'm serious. Her dream, instead of being a ballerina, was a hairstylist, hence the name. Her theme color was honey yellow.

Trivia

  • Kaede's full name means "Upper rice paddy maple tree". Honestly, I don't know why I chose the last name Ueda.
  • In the psuedo-remake "My Darling ♡ Pretty Cure", her name is Chise Takase, which means "red peak tenderness".
  • She looks pretty similar to Cure Rhythm, and they even fight in... kinda similar ways?

Misaki Kagome

I'm probably gonna make the other three Happy Happy girls' pages before anyone else, but after school because I need to do that.

Introduction

Misaki Kagome (籠目 岬) is the second Cure of the Pretty Cure group Happy Happy Pretty Cure! Her alter ego is Cure Blaze and her theme color is red.

Personality

Misaki is a calm and collected girl who's secretly obsessed with anime. She is usually bullied by the other kids, but the other girls stand up for her.

As the series is based on emojis, she is represented by the robot emoji.

Production

Misaki was originally made on July 3rd, 2015. Her original name was Shika Sutechi, meaning "Stich deer, her alter ego was Cure Treasure, and her theme color was sweet red. At one point, her Cure name was gonna be Cure Cinnamon.

Trivia

  • Misaki's full name means "Hexagon beautiful bloom"
  • In the psuedo-remake "My Darling ♡ Pretty Cure", her name is Yutaka Akamine, which means "red peak tenderness".

Mariko Itou

This is the first character bio of the wiki, so I think it makes sense to start the character bios off with Mariko Itou, my first ever Pretty Cure OC!

Introduction

Mariko Itou (伊藤 真理子) is the lead Cure of the Pretty Cure group Happy Happy Pretty Cure! Her alter ego is Cure Glitter and her theme color is pink.

Personality

Mariko is a girly girl who admires the aesthetic of France and the 1950's to the point of an obsession. She dreams of becoming a fashion designer alongside Riko Imasaki (as seen in Happy Happy Pretty Cure!: Mariko no Yume! Tetsudatte Moraemasu ka?). She comes from Shiramine, a small village in Japan, so she gets pretty excited to move to Setaka, which is also a village but way bigger.

As the series is based on emojis, she is represented by the cat emoji.

Production

Mariko was originally made on July 3rd, 2015, alongside the other five main Cures. Her original name was Wandaa Nichiyoubi, meaning "Sunday wonder", and her theme color was specifically tea pink. She originally had brown hair and green eyes, but it has changed to dark purple hair and light blue eyes, similar to Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

Mariko is definitely my favorite of the five girls.

Trivia

  • Mariko's full name means "Wisteria true village (child)"
  • In the psuedo-remake "My Darling ♡ Pretty Cure", her name is Yukiho Sakurai, which means "blossom well, helping step".
  • I think the name Keiko Nichiyoubi would fit her too.
