March 16

Mid-March is a strange in-between for the seasons.

Mid-June is a time we collectively accept that it's Summer, because we're out of school. But the flowers are still blooming, aren't they?

Mid-September is a time we collectively accept that it's Autumn, because we just started the new year of school. But the trees are still green, aren't they?

Mid-December is a time we collectively accept that it's Winter, because it's almost Christmas. But it isn't snowing, isn't it?

But it's Mid-March and we're having a snowfall. Small, but expected for a Winter day...

...but it's Spring, is it not? March 16? No, that's wrong.

We know March 16 takes place in the Winter, but we don't really acknowledge it as Winter, much like June 16 is Summer, September 16 is Autumn, and December 16 is Winter. Even though that's not the case at all.

I guess it's because the seasons are a social construct. Where I live, the seasons usually happen a couple weeks after the calendar says it will start. We have October snow sometimes, but it's very rare. But what's not rare is a Mid-March snowfall.

While I'm grateful for the snow today, I gotta agree with my sister.

I can't wait for Spring.
