I watched Dandadan Season 2! It didn't get as much hype as Dandadan Season 1. It could be for a few reasons: The opening was not done by Creepy Nuts this time and they're known for making viral songs (like in Mashle). People know more about... the scene in S1E1. The incident where someone edited Momo and Okarun to be Black got viral and people didn't like racist Dandadan fans berating the artist. Or, perhaps, anime hype may or may not last as long as their first season airs.
But yeah, I watched episodes 10-12 of season 1 and episodes 1-5 of season 2. Probably the most episodes of any anime I watched in 1 day, 8, though I'm not sure if that's actually true.
I am watching the manga as I read along with the manga and I stopped at episode 5 because it seems that we have reached the point where our volumes might be synced up! I stopped somewhere near volume seven. I have volumes 8 and 9, but none after that. I predict Dandadan season 2 doesn't cover anything beyond volume 9. A character who I believe will only have a "last scene of the anime" role in season 2 is the primary cover character of volume 10. I believe volumes 11, 12, and 13 are available internationally, while volumes 14-18 only have official Japanese copies for now.
Spoilers for Dandadan (manga and anime) below:
So Dandadan S2E6 is when the hayashi group, a v-kei band, I think, shows up. It is also the time where Miko and Muko/Kei are like "hey Okarun, let's hang out". And I know if I watch this episode, if I'm lucky, will be the last episode I can watch without reading the manga first (unless you dismiss my rule outright).
So the part where I'm at is where Okarun, Miko, and Muko hang out and Momo is revealed to be working at a maid café. She's awkward about it, she at some point says "Welcome to the establishment, you piece of shit."
And I know there's a few things that happen after that.
- The next paranormal phenomenon the kids discover is related to real-life classical conductors/musicians and an auditorium where audience's mouths are perpetually wide open. Jiji does not encounter this (Post-volume 7: Momo is not in this fight either. Likely to make up for Okarun not being the main focus and Aira not fighting in the Evil Eye fight).
- A new kid is introduced, Kinta Sakata, who does exaggerative poses. He is likely very linked with kaiju and I wouldn't be surprised if he liked kaiju before the kaiju battle (Post-volume 8: he likes robots), which I also know happens, will happen. He will appear in season 2 of the anime, and I think the kaiju will as well.
- In volume 10, Bamora/Vamola is introduced. She is an alien girl. She copies Jiji's funny poses and phrases. She is a survivor of an alien genocide (if not, she is the survivor of an alien war and another group of aliens is going through genocide). She is a veteran. The soldiers in her world are all (or at least predominantly) women. Many of them are older women, in fact.
- Shown in the season 2 ending, a girl shows up alongside the main cast. Her name is Rin Sawaki. I believe she is the class representative.
- There is a long arc called the "Space Globalist Arc", where tons of aliens show up on Earth. Is it for Okarun's balls? Or is it for something else?
- The man in the "Have You Seen This Man" viral image becomes antagonists in the story. Yes, that's plural.
- The Serpos return and get more prominent roles, with one, Rokuro, becoming a supporting character. I think he ends up working retail.
- There are two other kids that become part of the main group. One guy and one girl. The former, I think shows up in the first Dandadan saga. His name is Unji and he has a past relating to the cop that checked up on Jiji and the Kito family in the Evil Eye arc. Unji may be a ghost. The latter shows up much later on in the second saga, and she is known as the Pygmy Princess. I think her first name is
HonokaKoki. - The main villain of Dandadan is Saint-Germain. Dandadan's interpretation of the Count of Saint-Germain. I wanna say he has pink hair and a green blazer, like Moka Akashiya from Rosario+Vampire. In volume 15, he is the only character on the cover and he has a semi-realistic art style.
I'm very interested to see where the story goes. I know a lot of it is not really about "let's search for the MacGuffin" but what will happen to Jiji and Evil Eye? Are the other characters still going to demonize Evil Eye or will something happen where they find out the truth? Or if Jiji finds out he was led on by a lie (which I highly doubt)? Will Momo get a phone? Will Okarun and Momo won't Okarun and Momo?
Alas, I force myself to stop here. I cannot predict if Dandadan Season 2 Episode 6 will end on a volume I have read yet or not. But I have a manga to read and homework to write.
