So today was the first time I hung out with a friend outside of school for the first time, lame, I know. We went to the movies. Of course, I dropped my popcorn on the ground, scooped it up, ate it, and had to deal with a kid kicking my chair and talking during the whole film but I had a fun experience.
So, you can guess what I just did... That's right, I watched Ghostbusters: Afterlife on opening weekend!
So the movie is about this family moving to this house that belonged to the mom's dad and everyone in the town thinks he's crazy. The mom's kids, Trevor and Phoebe, are trying to live their lives until Phoebe finds her grandfather's lab, and finds out her grandfather was... a Ghostbuster!
And yeah, there's some mini marshmallow men and a Terror Dog eating Purina, and the gates of Hell are opening up but nah, it's just a charming family film for all, nothing scary here!
I loved the characters. They were cool. Mostly for reliability, Phoebe was my favorite character in the movie, and Podcast and Mr. Grooberson were pretty funny as well. I loved how you can tell that these characters were themselves and not just blank slates or carbon copies of the original.
Well, except for one... I'm surprised that Lucky didn't do much in the movie. She barely even did any action, she turns into a terror dog in the final battle!
The story was pretty good as well, but I don't have much to say about it, I'm not an all-knowing story genius yet, all I got stuck in my head is the Hero's Journey and the Story Circle.
I might rewrite this if I find a flaw in someone's review and I'm like "ohhhh I remember not liking that" but the only flaw I found was that they were talking about Rainbow Dash finding her voice in the 46th episode of MLP and I'm like "oh ok let's search that up" and the 46th episode is the one where Twilight Sparkle time travels... I'm gonna regret saying this because I haven't watched this episode in years but how much did Rainbow Dash attribute to that episode?
Also, I like how the jokes and how they play a part in the story like "Why can't you trust atoms? Because they make everything up". If Phoebe's grandad heard that, he would probably say "that's not me I'm not atoms".
The Mini Pufts surprisingly didn't make as many appearances as the trailer implied. I think they appeared in two scenes. For all that's worth, like the Mini Puft NFTs and the blind bags and everything, it's surprising and not surprising at the same time. I'm not disappointed like I am with Lucky's minor appearances, it's actually fine.
Favorite parts:
- The scary parts
- Gozer ripping a guy's body apart
- When Mr. Gooberson threw ice cream at the terror dog
- "I think Mr. Gooberson is trying to bone your mom"
- The scene where Phoebe calls Ray
- The loud parts
- Mr. Gooberson gives Callie a flower, she eats it, and then they make out
- The very end
Okay, bye.
