There's a lot of things to unwrap about the mobile game boycott, specifically for one game (which I don't wanna name for some reason), and maybe another. I'll put some on the screen.
Dark skin characters
Two characters, I'll call them Lock and Dawn, have some portrayals not seen very cash money. I'll say them right now.
The first one, fake name Lock, is an eye-patched man who is a knight. But there are a few things about him questioned by "14 she/them autistic"s right now. There's a comment by a character theorizing that under Lock's eyepatch is just white skin, and he'll be a laughing stock, which is very weird. There is also him being called "exotic" by the game. Apparently it was a mistranslation, and the right word was "foreign", not exotic.
The second one, fake name Dawn, is a dark-skinned Asian girl. She is said to be scary and weird to everyone, and if she locks eyes with a baby, it will cry. While the reason why she is said to be scary is because she's a rockstar with seemingly edgy clothing, the reasons why this comment is coming to attention is that she and Lock are some of the only dark-skinned characters in the game.
Another complaint is that their skin color is seemingly inconsistent compared to their art. Which, no offense, is just adding fuel to the flames. The art of Lock and Dawn mentioned is in neutral lighting, while the images where their skin is lighter is showing them under the sunlight. Gimme a break.
Creepy NPC
There are also two creepy NPCs in the game, and a few other creepy remarks.
There's a character I'll call Brick, who's stalking one of the other characters, who I'll call Aria, who is 16. It's creepy, but I don't have enough context for this, despite seeing him for myself at one point. Sorry!
There's also a character I'll call Ted, who wants to confess his love to a girl I'll call Flora. Problem is... Flora is a kid. Except, she wasn't a kid before. In the beta release of this game, Selphie was an adult, so Ted's behavior was at least a little more justified, but the people who played the beta game wanted more kids. So the creators of the game aged down Selphie, but forgot to remove Ted, or at least changed his dialogue. If anything comes out of this genshintwt shit, make it be with these two.
There's also Gia, who is a legal adult. But she gets comments from drunkards to meow like a cat and stuff like that, and Gia hates it. It's good that this isn't being glorified.
The last thing I saw is the model name in the game for shorter characters like Gia: Loli. This is short for "lolicon", basically meaning "sexually attracted to child cartoon characters" (or something to that extent I'm stupid). In the west, using the word loli so casually is inexcusable but... the game I'm talking about comes from Asia. East Asia. So I can't comment on this yet.
EDIT 11/14/2021: This Gia I spoke of was a child bartender and I've never noticed because I've never spoken to her in game, she is not legal, she is 10
Enemies
Unfortunately, I'm gonna keep this brief, despite being the most commented on part of the boycott.
The main enemies of the game are a tribe of fantasy creatures cursed by some abyss group. However, they use references of indigenous people. The ones on the opposing side say that nobody should use indigenous people as reference for monsters. The defensive side says that
Unfortunately, I can't personally comment on this, since I'm not indigenous, so it's not my place. Same thing about the India stuff, sorry!
Postponing events, gacha
Idgaf. I don't. Seriously. Complain what you want. It's just a game. Some of these republicans are like "wow you sjw's are complaining about the enemy thing but not about the gachas?" like dude, that matters way less than the other stuff. If you don't care, grow up and spread the word about real problems.
(breaking news robo is a hypocrite)
Security
Also don't care. While it has to be fixed, let's not talk about problems that should only be sent to the company and again, spread the word about real problems about people.
Outro
This tag came out half a year too late. The majority of this stuff was from 2020 and it feels like these people are calling the company out on their BS because they were told to. Well, yeah, they were, why else would it be trending, but why do this in April instead of when the game came out or when Dawn got released?
They even changed the tag from "boycott[game]" to "dobetter[company]" just so they didn't have to uninstall the game. If you hate it so much, don't go to the new Childe banner and uninstall the game.
